Defense Language Institute Hiring Event

The Defense Language Institute will hold a hiring event at ACCESS' Macomb Office from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on June 6.

Essential Duties:
  • Serves as an Arabic language teacher in one of three schools in Monterey, Calif.
  • Teaches all aspects of resident courses using appropriate real-world proficiency activities and FLO-related tasks
  • Participates in team meetings
  • Analyzes program effectiveness and student performance
  • Responsible for students' counseling, test administration, and grade reporting
  • Adapts, modifies and tailors existing materials and prepares new materials
  • Conducts model classes for team members and stays abreast of current teaching, testing and curriculum development methods, procedures and theories
  • Tries out new teaching methods/techniques in the classroom and shares results
  • Implements available technology to maximize instruction.

Salary range: $57,602 to $98,445, depending on qualifications.

Qualifications:
  • The employee must have native or near-native proficiency in all skill modalities in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), with expertise in Levantine or Iraqi, Tunisian and Egyptian dialects.
  • Familiarity with sound foreign language teaching methodology, knowledge of learner variables, and substantial experience teaching in DLIFLC programs in the target language are essential factors.
  • The employee must also keep abreast of new trends and developments in teaching.
  • Must be an effective team player, a self-starter with solid people skills.
  • Experience with foreign language curriculum development is desirable.
  • Must be willing to integrate technology in a pedagogically sound manner in the classroom and in homework assignments.
  • Effectively employs appropriate resources such as smart boards, the Internet, iPads and MacBook Pro laptops.
  • Uses currently available software for the development of authentic learning materials to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Uses computer skills to organize data and teaching materials.
  • Applicants must have the ability to obtain authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must pass a national background check.
