Housing

  • ACCESS Rent/Mortgage Assistance (when funding is available): Designed to prevent homelessness and/or permanent displacement. Clients must provide a court-ordered eviction or delinquency notice from their mortgage company.  Other qualification factors apply. Call 313-203-3391 to schedule an appointment for an assessment.
  • Transitional & Permanent Housing Assistance (when funding is available): Designed to provide intensive case management and wrap-around care to those deemed at risk for housing displacement. Referrals and assistance with the application process is available.
  • Temporary Shelter: Provide referrals to homeless shelters and hotel/motel programs.
  • Housing Programs: Assist with and interpret the application process for housing programs. For rules and regulations, visit www.hud.com and www.michigan.gov/mshda.

Translation

  • Translation of personal and corporate documents (fee for service): Translators are state certified and proficient in English, Arabic and French.  All translation services are provided for a fee; however, a sliding fee scale will be applied for low-income households. 
  • Types of documents available for translation include: birth certificates, death certificates, diplomas, divorce decrees, driver’s license, family inscriptions, immunization records, individual inscription, judicial records, marriage certificates, medical reports, newspaper articles, passports, personal identification cards, report cards, school transcripts, and more.

Legal Services

  • Free Legal Aid: The Legal Aid and Defenders Association (LADA) offers assistance to the ACCESS One-Stop Employment & Human Services Center and Social Services Department by providing free legal aid to low-income families in the area of civil law (landlord/tenant, wills, etc.) This service is by appointment only.
  • Legal Services (fee for service): Private attorneys lease space at the ACCESS One-Stop Employment & Human Services Center and Social Services Department, specializing in Social Security and family law.

Tax Assistance

  • Free Tax Preparation: The Accounting Aid Society is available to the ACCESS Youth &Family Services Center, ACCESS One-Stop and Employment & Human Services Center, and Social Services Department to provide free income tax and home heating credits to low- and middle-income households during tax season. All Center for Working Families program clients receive free tax preparations during tax season.

Social Security Assistance

  • Medicare parts A, B, & D: Assist with the application completion process 
  • Medicare Extra Help Program: Assist with the application completion process for Social Security Supplemental Income (SSI)
  • Social Security retirement or disability, survivors or family benefits: Assist with the application completion process
  • Appeal a disability decision claim: Assist with and interpret the filing process
  • Complete a representative payee report: Assist with and interpret the filing process
  • Social Security number: File applications, assist with card replacement or first time applicants, assist with the application completion process
  • Benefit verification letter: Assist with obtaining  documents
  • Social Security statement: Assist with obtaining documents
  • MMAP counseling: Staff are state certified MMAP counselors who can assist and interpret the selection of Medicaid Part D

Immigration and Citizenship

Immigration services are provided by specialists who are certified and accredited by the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA); this accreditation allows the immigration specialist to represent clients in immigration courts and accompany them during their interview at the Department of Homeland Security. This is a fee for service program; a sliding-fee scale will be applied for low-income clients.

  • Consultations: Provide preliminary consultation to determine additional services related to each client’s situation and/or assistance requests
  • Outreach to United States Department of Homeland Security: Accompany client at review and hearings related to immigration cases
  • Completion of immigration forms: Assist with United States naturalization, family reunification, permanent residency, Visas, adjustment status, National Visa Center processing forms, etc.
  • Citizenship classes: Assist in the preparation to take the United States Naturalization test
  • Visa Lottery: (when available) Assist with the completion of the application process
  • Host swearing-in ceremonies for recent United States citizens with the Department of Homeland Security
