On Wednesday, May 14, students attending Dearborn, Hamtramck and Melvindale schools had a unique opportunity to explore a wide variety of higher education options at ACCESS’ 10th Annual College Fair. Eleven colleges and universities participated in the event.
Over 250 students from area high schools attended the program to learn about college opportunities and hear motivational speakers’ success stories. College admissions officers and representatives met with prospective students regarding admissions, financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
“This event helped inspire us to look to our future and put something in our mind about the next step,” said Yousef Said, 14. “I plan to go to the University of Michigan Ann Arbor.”
Through various activities and events, the ACCESS Youth and Education Department strives to build strong partnerships with parents, students, teachers, school personnel, local businesses and the greater community in order to support the educational needs of all students.
"We would like to thank The Center for Arab American Philanthropy and the American Association of Yemeni Scientists and Professionals for their partnership and support," said Sarah Shoucair-Chaar, supervisor, ACCESS Academic and Youth Development Programs. "I would also like to thank the Youth and Education Department for its hard work that made this event such a success."
